Hello, my name is Andile Mpofu and I am 23 years of age. I was born and brought up in Zimbabwe. I came to the United States in the year 2013 to further my education and I am currently studying Business Economics at Green River College in Seattle, Washington and will be minoring in Finance. I enjoy working with youths from all sorts of backgrounds. I have had the privilege and honor to work with some children’s homes in Zimbabwe before coming to the US. These are centers where I would go and be a mentor to children who came from disadvantaged or broken families. To be the older sister and listener they never had but wished for and empowering then in all sorts of areas of their lives. Within one month upon arriving in the US I started volunteered at my church in Bellevue, WA, teaching in the children’s ministry. I have been a children’s ministry teacher for about four years and counting now. Amongst many other community involvements I have worked with foodbanks to feed the hungry in my community here in the Seattle, Washington area. Like I mentioned earlier youth empowerment is not all I stand for, my heart also beats after feeding the hungry and educating the disadvantaged child. It is not right for any child to go without food. Zimbabwe being a country facing a lot of economic problems there are underprivileged children who go to school on an empty stomach. However, those that can afford to go to school even on empty stomachs can be considered privileged by those who resort to anti- social behaviors and or go through the vicious cycle of poverty due to lack of education funds. It is impossible to rebuild a country when its youths are uneducated. This is why as Miss Africa-Washington I will take it upon myself to advocate for the hungry and the uneducated in offices of higher authorities not only in Zimbabwe but all over Africa as well as here in the US.
