The Pageant

The Pageant

The Miss Africa Washington State Pageant was founded in 2015. The pageant was formed with the sole purpose of giving young African women living in Washington State a platform to showcase not only their beauty but most importantly their culture, talent and creativity.  The winner becomes a goodwill ambassador for Miss Africa Washington State Pageant, charged with designing and implementing a charity program based on her Pageant Humanitarian Platform.

  • The pageant is highly competitive and seeks to bring out those leadership qualities in women.
  • The organization thereby supports the winner in executing their humanitarian platform in serving humanity and making our world a better place. Over the last 3 years, our Queens have devoted their time to charity work in the Washington State and in Africa.
  • We aim to instill into these young ladies, the culture of giving.
  • In addition to charitable giving, this pageant aims at promoting African culture, tourism and lifestyle to the wider world.

The Reigning Queen

The Reigning Queen

Shalom Aburu

She is an art enthusiast, fashion designer and most importantly a humanitarian. Born and raised in Kampala Uganda, Shalom always had compassion and will to help those in need. This seed was planted from an early age by her mother, a pastor, who always went an extra mile to help community members in need. Today Shalom is ambassador for an organization in Uganda, Morkiswa Community Skilling Organization, that helps youth in rural Tororo get an education. She strongly believes that education is the best key to unlock a better future for Uganda and Africa at large. In fact, in 2014 Shalom moved to the United States of America to further her education. She graduated from Pierce College Fort Steilacoom with an Associates in Science and plans to obtain a career in Mental Health Therapy through further education.
Shalom Aburu also has a strong passion for art and fashion. This passion drove her to teach herself fashion design and sewing at the age of 12 and has been polishing her craft for the last 11 years. In 2016 she was the youngest fashion designer selected to showcase her clothing collection at Bellevue Fashion Week. Today she is a self-employed fashion designer with a business, Aburu Fashion House, designing African inspired clothing and accessories.
